A Maxton woman is accused of fatally shooting a family friend Friday after arguing with the victim, authorities said.
Ruth Ann Jones Moreno, 47, of Papa’s Drive, is charged with second-degree murder, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting was reported about 3 a.m., deputies said.
According to authorities, Moreno went to the home of Michael Conrad Ray, 51, of 844 Old Baker Road to confront him about an incident involving a relative.
Officials say Moreno used a shotgun to shoot Ray once, killing him. It is unclear where Moreno got the weapon.
Moreno returned to her home about a half-mile away and called authorities, deputies said.
She is being held in the Robeson County jail without bail, Branch said.
