Laurinburg police are investigating an accident that killed a 30-year-old cyclist in the Washington Park area.
Around 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Derrick Bostic was riding his bicycle on South Caledonia Road, just south of College Drive, when he was struck by a Lincoln Town Car driven by Doris Steele, said Lt. Darwin Williams of the Laurinburg Police Department.
According to Williams, Bostic was transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital by EMS and pronounced dead shortly after.
For most of Wednesday morning, police blocked off the area where Bostic’s bicycle and the vehicle involved in the accident remained on the scene several hours after the collision.
Steele, 64, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Williams said that the details of the accident and how Steele came to hit Bostic’s bicycle are still under investigation.
