The eighth annual Gospel Jubilee promises to be a night of great gospel entertainment, according to organizers.
The event is hosted by the Laurinburg Kiwanis Club and will be held this Saturday at 6:30 pm at the Scotland High School auditorium.
Proceeds will benefit the Kiwanis Club’s local community projects, including Terrific Kids program, the Key Club, Scholarships, Bookships, Boys & Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw and T-ball and little league baseball.
Directed by Kiwanian Cecil Daughtry, the Jubilee will feature nearly a dozen regional gospel acts.
“The Kiwanis Club appreciates the community support for all club endeavors for both fund raisers and service projects,” Daughtry said. “It takes all of us to secure the future for our children.”
Tickets can be purchased either from a Kiwanis member, The Gospel Music and Christian Bookstore or at the door for $7. Children age 10 and under get in free.
Jubilee lineup
Expected to be included in this year’s Jubilee lineup are Eastern Sonrise, Mackie Swails the mime, the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir led by Sylvia Stewart, Alyse Player, Betty Odom and Kim Dennison, Adoration, Stuart Carmichael and The Oxendines, a popular group from Shannon.
“Again this year several … favorite performers will be returning as well as some new faces. The line-up promises to be exciting and appeal every attendee,” Daughtry said.
Returning after three years are The Oxendines from Shannon. They have been singing for more than 15 years. Currently, they have more than 200 singing engagements annually.
For the eighth year, Eastern Sonrise Quartet will also perform. They travel almost every weekend to sing in a church service or other event. The group is from Rockingham.
Also from Rockingham is 14 year old Alyse Player. Alyse began singing at age 5, and has sung five years for Gospel Jubilee. She will be singing the very popular song. “In The Presence”.
The Sanctuary Choir from First Baptist Church of Laurinburg will perform for the third year at the Gospel Jubilee. The choir’s organist and Director of Music Ministries Sylvia Stewart has selected a gospel medley that called “Hallelujah By and By”. The choir will do another favorite by popular request, “Just a Little Talk with Jesus”.
Singing with Gospel Jubilee for seven years is Betty Odom.
Odom is from Raeford, and will sing, “He Has Forgiven Me.”
This will be Mackie Swails third year with the show. By popular demand, he will perform a mime to, “I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy”.
Nikki Edge, a registered nurse at Scotland Memorial Hospital for 9 years, began singing when she was 5 years old. She has been singing in a Kiwanis music show since she was 10. This Saturday night, she will be assisted by her daughter, Chloee, as she sings a special number.
Ronnie Fields, an employee of Lowes of Laurinburg, joins Gospel Jubilee for the first time. Being an avid player of more than 10 instruments, he has selected a saxophone solo for Saturday night.
Stuart Carmichael has been singing and assisting Gospel Jubilee for 8 years. This year, he serves as music coordinator and he will sing a solo called, “It Is Well.”
For the second year, mistress of ceremonies is Rachel Gallman. She is the operations manager/program director for WLNC radio station.
