The Scotland County Board of Education is expected to approve the hiring of a new public information officer at its regular meeting on Monday.
Meredith Bounds was chosen by school system’s human resources department to replace Andy Cagle, who held the position for seven years.
Until recently, Bounds worked for the American Cancer Society as community manager of its South Atlantic Division.
If approved, Bounds will begin work in mid-April.
Cagle left the school system at the end of March to become the public information officer and director of recruiting at Richmond Community College.
The board will also be asked on Monday to approve an academic calendar for the 2013-2014 school year. The tentative calendar begins the 166-day school year on Sept. 3 and ends it on May 29, 2014.
In other busines, the board will hear a presentation by Dr. Pamela Baldwin, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, detailing the finer points of the Read to Achieve program to be implemented in elementary schools this fall.
