A Maxton man was severely injured over the weekend in a horrific crash that killed two women.
Authorities say the accident involved a car entering neighboring Pembroke going more than 100 mph and plowing into two motorcycles
According to police and the Highway Patrol, took the life of Virginia Carol Locklear, 37, of 424 Cunningham Circle, Lumberton, and Marie D. Locklear, 49, of 609 McInnis St., Pembroke.
A third victim, Frederick M. Locklear, 36, of 115 Ardell Road, Maxton, remains hospitalized. He was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, and on Saturday morning was airlifted to Duke
He is listed in serious but stable condition.
The three victims were riding motorcycles along Third Street when they were struck by a four-door white Saturn traveling westbound in excess of 100 mph at about 11 p.m.
Julie Miller, 40, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., was arrested and charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury.
At one point Miller’s car became airborne, after flying over the railroad tracks that cross Third Street (N.C. 711), said Police Chief Dwayne Hunt.
Miller suffered only minor cuts and scrapes. She was treated and released at the hospital in Lumberton and taken by Pembroke officers to the Robeson County jail.
Miller remains behind bars today in lieu of a $1.2 million bond.
