Campbell Soup Company was among the people and businesses recognized recently for their efforts with Lumber River Workforce Development Board.
The Scotland County soup make was named Workforce Investment Act Business of the Year during the develiopment board annual recognition banquet last week.
Officials said the purpose of the banquet was to honor outstanding participants and businesses who are involved in the Workforce Investment Act Program, also known as WIA. WIA is a federally funded program designed to address the employment and training needs of adults, dislocated workers and youth.
A total of four Scotland County winners were recognized. Sandra Monroe Warren of Gibson was recognized as the WIA Adult of the Year. Montricia Stewart of Laurinburg was recognized as the WIA Older Youth of the Year and Alexius Fields of Laurinburg was acknowledged as the WIA Younger Youth of the Year.
Nominations were submitted by Scotland County Schools and the Scotland County JobLink Career Center, both partners of the Lumber River Workforce Development Board.
Scotland County schools operates the WIA Youth program in Scotland County. Scotland County JobLink Career Center operates the WIA Adult program in Scotland County.
Other awards included the Dr. Stanley A. Richardson Award Workforce Development Board Member of the Year, Durham White of Robeson County. This award is named in honor of the late Dr. Stanley A. Richardson, a board member and a longtime educator from Bladen County.
The dinner was held at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke Annex Building. More than 100 guests and staff attended.
The Lumber River Workforce Development Board oversees programs for its five-county region: Scotland, Bladen, Hoke, Richmond and Robeson counties.
