A car that police thought had fired several shots turned out to be the victim in the crime.
North Carolina probation officer Martie Crumroy called Laurinburg police for assistance Tuesday after observing a black Lexus leave the vicinity of South Caledonia Road following gunshots fired in the area.
Travelling south on South Caledonia, the vehicle turned west onto U.S. 74 before exiting onto South Main Street and taking a right on Ford Drive, stopping near Champ’s Fine Foods and Spirits, according to the police report.
Officers then conducted a traffic stop, ordering driver Brian McRae, 19, of Laurel Hill and passengers Adauris McRae, 17, and Quinsean Davis, 19, both of Laurel Hill out of the car at gunpoint, the report said.
With the three passengers handcuffed, police searched the car for weapons and found none. The trio was later released without being arrested. It occurred around 6 p.m.
That was after police inspected the car and found two bullet holes. One bullet entered through the rear window before being deflected by the windshield and becoming lodged in the dashboard, police said. The second bullet entered near the bottom of the rear passenger door and lodged between the door and the interior door panel, the report said.
None of the three were injured.
