Southeastern Regional Medical Center is branching out to neighboring Scotland County with the opening of Southeastern SELF Recovery Laurinburg, a facility offering outpatient services for individuals that have abusive or dependent use of alcohol and/or other drugs.
The center, located at 915 South Main St., Suite I in the Oaks Professional Building in Laurinburg, offers a broad range of substance abuse treatment services, including: DSS assessment and treatment services; DWI assessment and treatment services; outpatient treatment services (group and individual); substance abuse intensive outpatient programs; and family services.
Cheryl Wood, a long-time Scotland County resident, serves as primary counselor for the center.
She earned a master’s degree in service agency counseling from UNC Pembroke and is licensed as both a certified clinical addiction specialist as well as a professional counselor.
“We are pleased and excited about the excellent quality of the substance abuse recovery services we are offering to the citizens in Scotland and surrounding counties,” said Larry Pittman, director of Southeastern Regional Medical Center’s substance abuse recovery services. “We are committed to improving the standard of care in substance abuse treatment for our region, as well as increasing access to quality treatment services.”
Southeastern Regional Medical Center, through its substance abuse services and in partnership with the Southeastern Regional Local Management Entity, was the recipient of a Cross Area Services Programs (CASP) grant from the North Carolina Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services in September 2008.
The purpose of the grant was to expand state-of-the-art substance abuse services in the Southeastern part of the state, to include the counties of Scotland, Hoke, Robeson and Bladen. One initial project of the grant was the establishment of another Southeastern affiliate, Southeastern SELF Recovery, a nine-bed recovery home located on Burns Road in Lumberton.
