Scots take Grand Champion award

The Scotland High School Fighting Scots Marching Band competed at the 2009 Douglas Byrd Eagle Band Day recently and brought back the overall Grand Champion trophy.

The Scots Marching Band took the following awards: Second Place in Drum Major for Class 3A, First Place in Visual Ensemble for Class 3A, First Place in Percussion for Class 3A, First Place in Music for Class 3A, First Place in Class 3A, Grand Champion in Class 3A/4A, and Overall Grand Champion.

"The band had a very good performance, and we competed against some fantastic groups," said Mark Doerffel, director of bands. "It is truly an honor for us to have won these awards especially the Overall Grand Champion."

The Fighting Scots Marching Band will be on the road next Saturday, Nov. 7 at Loris High School (SC) for their final competition of the year.

This is what you've practice all those long hours for. Enjoy the feeling that comes along with the win, you all deserve it. Congrats to the SHS Marching Band. We're all so very proud of you.
