Thomas W. Parker III
The Lumber River Council of Governments recently recognized two Scotland County residents for their time and energy to the council.
The event took place at the Southeastern NC Agricultural Center in Lumberton. The annual meeting was presided over by Laurinburg City Council Thomas W. Parker, LRCOG Board of Directors chairman.
Parker was the recipient of the 2009 Calvin Haggins Award for Board Member of the Year, an award named in memory of the late Calvin Haggins of Fairmont who was a devoted member of the LRCOG Board of Directors.
Jay Todd of Laurinburg was the recipient of the 2009 Workforce Development Board Member of the Year. This award is presented annually to the Workforce Development Board Member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the board.
The 2009 Annie Kohnen Award for Clerk of the Year award was presented to Juanita Hester of Bladen County. Dorothy Wilkerson of Robeson County received the 2009 Aging Advisory Council Member of the Year and Blake Proctor of Fairmont was the recipient of the 2009 John K. McNeill, Jr. Award Regional Manager of the Year award.
The LRCOG is a planning and service agency representing the cities and towns of Region N; composed of Bladen, Hoke, Richmond, Robeson and Scotland counties.
