Richard Hudson, Republican nominee for the 8th District, has praised the choice of Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s Republican vice presidential running mate.

Romney, who announced his pick of the Wisconsin congressman on Saturday, campaigned with Ryan in North Carolina today.

“I selected this man to be running mate because I want to change Washington,” Romney told a crowd of about 1,700 at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville. “I don’t want to be like Europe; I want to be like America.”

The presence of Ryan, a seven-term Wisconsin congressman, added a layer of hype to Romney’s first significant campaign tour in North Carolina, a key battleground state.

Hudson joined the Republican ticket, for appearances in Mooresville and High Point.

“The name ‘Paul Ryan’ is synonymous with fiscal responsibility, balancing budgets and challenging the liberal notion that we can tax, spend and borrow our way to prosperity,” Hudson said in a statement. ” The American people are tired of the failed leadership of politicians like Larry Kissell who are more concerned with their own re-election than solving the problems facing this nation. I look forward to joining Gov. Mitt Romney and Chairman Ryan in their fight to take back this country.”

Ryan had endorsed Hudson during his primary election

“Richard will help me lead the charge in Congress against reckless government spending and ever-increasing government power,” Ryan said at the time. “He has my full support.”

Hudson will face incumbent U.S. Larry Kissell and write-in candidate Antonio Blue of Rockingham in November.
