RALEIGH - Rep. Garland E. Pierce has been appointed chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural and Economic Resources and vice chair of the Committee on Aging. He was also assigned to several other critical committees that will have important roles in the House of Representatives this session. The appointments were announced by House Speaker Joe Hackney.

“I am pleased to have this opportunity to serve in such key positions,” Rep. Pierce said. “This appointment will allow me serve both the House of Representatives and the people of my district who have a strong interest in economic issues.”

Rep. Pierce was also appointed to the Commerce, Small Business, and Entrepreneurship, Federal Relations and Indian Affairs, Insurance, and Juvenile Justice Committees.

“My committee schedule will keep me busy this session, but I’m ready to get to work. We will have a lot of challenges this session as we look at ways to trim our budget and still keep the state and my district moving ahead.”

Rep. Pierce is a Baptist Minister in Scotland County and is serving his third term in the House of Representatives.
