Genesis 2:7 – “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

This weekend the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life takes place in the Pate Stadium here in Laurinburg at 6 pm. There are very few people whose lives have not been affected by cancer in some way. It is a time of remembrance and celebration. Many who take part in this event come to remember those who did not survive their battle with cancer. Many come to celebrate their victory over cancer. The Bible in the very beginning tells us that life comes from God. Jesus proclaimed that He was “the way, the truth, and the life…” God has called us to seek to preserve life in all forms, to do what we can to honor and watch over living beings. If you have a chance, take time tonight or tomorrow and be a part of this movement of hope – then you, too, can have a New Hope for Today.

Marshall is pastor of New Hope Baptist Church
