ENCORE! Theatre’s latest production has been described as when historical meets hysterical.

The Laurinburg-based theater group will perform “A Night at the Wax Museum: The Musical” Oct. 25-27.

The story revolves around students who failed history and as a result have to work on a class project at a wax museum run by their teacher’s aunts.

While the students are bored initially, a mysterious incantation from the back of Cleopatra’s bracelet brings the wax figures to life.

The musical, which is full of historical figures ranging from Henry VIII to Butch Cassidy and John Adams, will feature more that 30 cast members.

Laurinburg storyteller Tyris Jones, who is set to direct, said this week that he is “looking forward to opening night.”

“This play is going to be great,” he said. “It has been a great and challenging experience to work with such a large cast. It is all coming together now.”

The production will be performed each night at 7 p.m. at Avinger Auditorium on the campus of St. Andrews University. Tickets range from $12 to $8.

ENCORE! Theatre Chairman Allen Johnson said the theater goers can expect “chases, escapes and true love.”

“And we have some powerhouse voices in this show that will blow people away,” he said. “What more could you want?”

According to Johnson, locals should expect similar productions in the future.

“So many people are involved and plays like Wax Museum put the ‘community’ in community theatre. Do not miss this opportunity to witness something the whole family will enjoy,” Johnson said.

Tickets are available from cast members and will also be available at the door. Space is limited. For information, call 384-4516.

Young attendees are encouraged to wear their Halloween costume to the show. There will be trick-or-treating after the performance.
