Moving on

Philippians 3: 13 – 14 – “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Why do I spend time fretting over the things that have already happened? Why do I seek to figure out all the ways I could have done that differently? I can learn from my mistakes, and I should. But then I need to move on. I usually can’t change the past. What has been said or done is said and done. I can’t take it back, but I can move forward to make things better. I can press on in this life and seek to do better. Someone has quipped, “Have you ever noticed how large the windshield in a car is compared to the rearview mirror?” Why? Because we should be moving forward in life, not looking back all the times. Learn from our mistakes, correct what we can, forget the past and strive for a better tomorrow. When we learn to do this we will be on our way to a New Hope for Today.

Marshall is pastor New Hope Baptist Church
