Mary Gibson Grandy (Riegler) Lindars, 85, died on Oct. 25, 2009, at King James Care Center, Chatham, N.J.
Formerly of Berkeley Heights, N.J. and then Summit, N.J. for the past 37 years, Mary retired in 1971 from C.R. Bard in Murray Hill, N.J. as an Administrative Assistant. She was a life member of Canoe Brook Country Club.
Mary was born in Laurinburg, the eldest child of the late Charles William and Margaret Pearl Jordan Grandy. She graduated from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, in 1944. Her first husband, the late Charles R. Riegler Sr., died in 1963.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Laurence Edward Lindars, of Madison, N.J., formerly of Summit; her son, Charles Robert Riegler (Jamie) of Mountain View, Calif.; a daughter, Holly Regina Riegler Martin (Sean) of Conyers, Ga.; stepsons John L. Lindars (Sandy) and William A. Lindars of Chatham; a stepdaughter, Nancy Lindars Smith (Jack) of Chatham; nine grandchildren, Carlos R. Riegler and Casey R. Riegler, California, Tyler C. Martin and Shelley J. Martin, Georgia, Jennifer L. Wimsatt (John), Summit, Scott L. Lindars, Florida, Carolyn H. Smith, Virginia, Kyle L. Smith, California, and Grace K. Smith, Chatham; and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, C. William Grandy Jr., Charlotte, and Malcolm B. Grandy, Raleigh.
A service of celebration will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Canoe Brook Country Club at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Overlook Hospital Foundation, 36 Upper Overlook Rd., Summit, NJ 07901.
