The manhunt for a husband accused of attempting to kill his wife and brother-in-law continued Friday.

Police say 56-year old James Calvin Boyd tried to kill his estranged wife, Alvina Boyd, Wednesday morning when he broke into her Purcell Road home in Laurinburg and chased his wife and her brother with an axe.

The two escaped harm by hiding in the bathroom until police arrived.

Capt. Kimothy Monroe says Alvina Boyd is "safe and waiting on our phone call to make sure he's been captured."

Police are still uncertain of James Boyd's location, the captain said.

"It's still under investigation. We are still looking for him."

He said his officers are working round the clock to apprehend James Boyd.

"The information that we have on James Calvin Boyd has been distributed across the state and a nation-wide network," Monroe said.

The police captain said any agency that encounters James Boyd will immediately arrest him and police will extradite him to Scotland County for prosecution.

"Police consider James Calvin Boyd armed and dangerous and he should be approached with extreme caution," Monroe said.

He asked that anyone who knows the whereabouts of James Boyd call 911.
