Stolen dog reported

The sheriff's department had its third report of a large dog being in two weeks.

According to a sheriff's report, 31-year old Richard Hall told deputies that his bull mastiff was stolen from the yard of his Marston Road home in Laurel Hill.

An official with the sheriff's department cautioned against public concern, however.

He said that, from his understanding, all three dogs were allowed to roam free without a fence confining them to the property.

The official speculated that it was more likely that the dogs simply walked away, as opposed to being stolen. He added that people may have picked up any of the dogs if they were walking by the street, thinking they were stray or abandoned animals.

The official also said that one of the dogs had returned home.

Fight near jail reported

Two women were arrested after deputies caught them fighting on the premises of the sheriff's office.

According to a sheriff's report, 23-year old Sierra S. Coleman, of Geneva Street in Laurinburg, and 22-year old Angela Denise Patterson, of Southwood Drive in Laurinburg, were charged with being affray.

Both women were placed in Scotland County jail, each under a $500 secured bond.

Armed robbery near Maxton

About $380 in cash was taken from Valisha Jacobs, 20, on Friday during an armed robbery.

According to a sheriff’s report, Jacobs was stopped in her vehicle at the intersection of Red Hill and Old Red Springs roads at about 9 a.m. when a gunman jumped into her vehicle.

The man demanded money before grabbing Jacobs by the hair and telling her to place the cash in a money bag.

Man accused of burglary, threats

A Laurel Hill man is accused of burglary and making threats, according to a sheriff's report.

Deputies arrested 34-year old Sandy Lee Coleman, of Andrew Jackson Highway, on charged of burglary by forcible entry and making threatening phone calls, the report said.

Coleman is in Scotland County jail under a $5,000 secured bond.

According to DOC records, Coleman has a number of previous criminal convictions, including ten counts of larceny, two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of possessing stolen goods, speeding to elude arrest and obstructing justice.

Coleman was incarcerated for five years.

Robbery reported in Laurinburg

A Laurinburg man has alleged that he was pulled off his bike by a robber, according to a police report.

John D. Patterson, 52, told officers was riding his bike through the intersection at East Vance Street and First Street when an unknown robber pulled him off his bike, the report said. The robber the ran off with Patterson's black pouch and $7 in cash.

Patterson told police that he chased the man on First Street over to the 700 block, but lost sight of him, the report said.

Patterson lives on Sigma Street.

Man accused of assaulting female, child

A Gibson man has been charged with assaulting a woman and a child, according to a sheriff's report.

Deputies served warrants on 23-year old Jason Anthony Jordan, of Austin Circle in Gibson, for assault on a female and assaulting a child under the age of 12, the report said.

Jordan was released from prison in February after having served a four year sentence for kidnapping and common law robbery.

He also served an stint in prison for breaking and entering and simple assault.

Man charged with assault

A 67-year man is charged with assaulting Laurinburg resident Terry Glenn Taylor, according to a sheriff's report.

David Knight, of Patterson Street in Laurel Hill, was served a warrant charging him with assault with a deadly weapon, the report said.

Knight was released on a written promise to appear in court, according to the report.
