An inmate at Scotland County jail has been charged with sexual battery against a jail employee, according to a sheriff's report.
Letrell Deshawn Graham, 20, of James Street, was charged Sunday with assaulting a government official, the report said.
Graham is awaiting trial for attempted murder for his involvement in a shootout in May.
The detention officer was transporting Graham to booking area when he rubbed against her, according to Sheriff Shep Jones.
"It is something that definitely should not happen," Jones said. "We want to make sure that officers are in a safe environment."
The sheriff said incidents like this are rare.
"When this does happen, we make sure the inmates are charged," Jones said.
Graham was in jail charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury, a charge that stems from a shootout on May 1. He is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a weapon in occupied property, injury to personal property and injury to real property, which stem from an April 5 shooting.
On May 1, Graham was a passenger inside a vehicle on Carver Street when two people approached the vehicle, one of them a victim of the April 5 shooting, officials said. Graham exchanged fire with one of the men outside the vehicle and struck the other one.
Graham was given an additional $5,000 bond for the sexual assault and remains in Scotland County jail with his previous bond amount of $300,000.
