Local law agencies reported giving hundreds of citations during the second week of a speeding enforcement blitz.
More than 800 citations were given out during the two weeks of the operations.
The Highway Patrol conducted four saturation patrols in Scotland County as part of Operation Slow Down and No Need to Speed, issuing 132 traffic violations, including 86 speeding citations and five driving while intoxicated, according to the Patrol.
They also conducted Operation Slow Down from Wednesday at midnight through Friday, issuing 159 speeding citations, five driving under the influence and 28 other charges between Scotland and Richmond Counties. There were 26 motorist assists and 4,085 patrol miles were driven as part of the three-day operation.
Laurinburg police reported 118 charges in No Need 2 Speed including two driving while intoxicated, 11 drug violations, location of three wanted persons, the issuance of 14 other criminal violations, 21 speeding violations and 67 other traffic violations.
The Scotland County Sheriff's Office issued 118 charges for the second week of traffic enforcement, including 3 driving while intoxicated, 89 speeding violations and 26 other traffic violations, according to Lt. Tommy Butler.
"Thirty-seven of those speeding citations were written yesterday (Sunday) on one of those saturations on Highway 74 alone," Butler said.
The lieutenant says this particular saturation patrol targeted people returning from the Thanksgiving holiday.
During the week prior, Laurinburg police have given out 152 citations, including 77 speeding tickets and five drunk-driving arrests while deputies have given out 121 with close to 100 speeding tickets and three driving under the influence.
For Scotland and Richmond counties, troopers issued 226 traffic sitations, including 76 speeding tickets and six charges of driving under the influence during the first week of the campaign.
Last year 25 motorists were killed and 1,870 were injured on North Carolina highways during the Thanksgiving holiday, according to the Highway Patrol.
Butler says the next major traffic enforcement is right around the corner.
"Pretty much the entire month of December is the Booze it & Lose it Campaign, which begins Friday with the lighting of the Tree of Life in Raleigh," Butler said.
Booze it & Lose it starts Friday and runs through Jan. 3.
