A Wagram firefighter was injured in an afternoon house fire.

Daniel Locklear was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital after being struck by a pipe while under the house at 24461 Spring Hill Road, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jackie Laviner with the Wagram Fire Department.

Locklear was treated for minor injuries as a precautionary measure and was released within a few hours. No one else was injured.

A homeowner who was in the residence reported the fire at about 3:42 p.m.; it took three-and-a-half hours to clear the scene, according to Lt. David Laviner with the Laurinburg Fire Department.

David Laviner said the fire is believed to have been electrical in nature and likely started under the floor of the house.

Officials said more than 50 percent of the property was burned and could be a total loss for the homeowner. Exact figures were not available.

There were more than 50 firemen and a number of departments on the scene.

Departments that responded included Wagram, Laurinburg, Spring Hill, Laurel Hill and Scotland County Fire Departments with Maxton and Gibson on standby. Also at the scene were the Scotland County Rescue Squad, the Scotland County Emergency Services and the Scotland County Sheriff's Department.
