Those looking for the perfect prom dress, might find the perfect outfit in an unusual place.
Officials with the Scotland County Relay for Life are holding a dress sale this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The sale will include prom dresses as well as wedding gowns. It will be held at the W. R. Dulin Center on the campus of Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Relay co-organizer Carol Thomas said that there will be some 70 dresses on sale, including a handful of wedding gowns.
The dresses were donated by Relay for Life teams. Harley’s Tuxedo and Gifts and Hi-Lites Ladies Clothing are donating racks and mannequins for the event. The dresses are either new or may have been worn once.
“The teams collected them - some of them were out of their own closets or they asked other people for them,” Thomas said. “We’ve been through all of them, they’re all in good shape. They’re all a good deal for girls who are looking for something.”
Prices will range from $15 to $100. A range of colors, sizes, and styles will be available. The sale will also include discounted wedding dresses — with much of the selection new with the the tags still on.
“The good thing is that we saw a lot of girls get dresses that they really liked, and they got them at a good price and it helped Relay too,” said Thomas. “It was a big win for everybody.”
Last year was the first year to incorporate the dress sale into Relay’s fund raising, netting about $1,000 for the American Cancer Society.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life gives the community a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
Each year, teams of Scotland County residents camp out at Scotland High School taking turns walking or running around the Pate Stadium track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.
This will be Relay’s 17th year in Laurinburg. Organizers will hold the official kickoff meeting on April 15.
