2 Timothy 2: 15 (KJV) “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
The word translated “Study” in the Greek means to give diligence, to labor, to endeavor. In English it means the acquiring of knowledge, careful examination, earnest effort, or deep thought. Both of these meanings carry with them the emphasis that “study” is work. We so often just take God’s Word as a passing thing, to read it quickly and on the surface. Now, one of the remarkable things about His Word is that you will get a lot out of it by just doing this. However, As Paul challenged Timothy in this passage, we need to be like miners – using our shovels, picks, and other tools to dig deep into the mines of scriptural gold. A gold miner that just walked around looking at the earth without serious digging wouldn’t find much. Dig in this year, read, study, and apply – and you will find daily a New Hope for Today.
