Felon caught with handgun
A 29-year old convicted felon was arrested after police discovered a gun in his vehicle.
Shaun Alexander Jennings, of St. Johns Church Road, Gibson, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, according to a Laurinburg police report.
Jennings' red 1996 Ford Crown Victoria was stopped by an officer Tuesday morning because the window tinting appeared to be too dark, the report said. When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed the smell of marijuana smoke and received consent from Jennings to search the vehicle.
The officer found a 9mm semiautomatic handgun and a marijuana blunt, the report said. Jennings was placed in Scotland County jail under a $1,000 bond. He was also given citations for his window tinting and simple possession of marijuana.
Jennings was previously convicted for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and drug possession, according to the N.C. Department of Correction.
Four teens arrested for fighting
Four 16-year old Scotland High School students were arrested for fighting on Monday.
Qunetina Wright, Lamia McCain and Debnta Matthews were charged with simple affray and Marqul Crumpton was charged with assault and battery in two separate incidents, according to Laurinburg police reports.
Matthews was placed in Scotland County jail under a $10,000 bond while the other three were released to their parents custody.
Gun stolen
A Maxton man told deputies someone stole electronics and a firearm from his home.
Casey Cook, 31, of Oxendine School Road, reported on Monday that someone broke into his home and stole $700 in electronics and a $400 gun, according to a sheriff’s report.
Damage to a storm window was $250.
A/C unit stolen
A Laurinburg man reported an air conditioner stolen from one of his properties.
Edward Greg Crepps, 50, of Stateline Road, told deputies an outside air conditioner and an A coil, valued at $1,500 and $500 respectively, were stolen from a home he owns on Crestline Road, a sheriff's report said.
Wagram thefts reported
Two thefts were reported from North Turnpike Road near Wagram on Monday.
Matthew Patterson, 41, told deputies that a .22 caliber semiautomatic rifle with a scope worth $200 and a desktop computer worth $1,300 were stolen from his home, a sheriff's report said.
Gloria Dean Cole, 55 reported that someone kicked in her back door and stole a television worth $800, a second report said.
Pills stolen
A Laurel Hill man told deputies that prescriptions were stolen from his home.
William Barber, of Gum Swamp Road, reported that sometime between 8:15 and 9 p.m. on Sunday, someone entered his home and stole $800 in jewelry, $300 in electronics, 50 Xanax pills and 50 Lorcet pills, according to a sheriff's report.
Woman arrested for fraud
Deputies recently charged a woman for fraud.
Victoria Elizabeth Clark, 25, of Sunset Drive, Laurinburg, was arrested at her home on Nov. 25 and charged with obtaining property by false pretenses, a sheriff's report said. The report was completed Monday.
Man charged for B&E
A would-be burglar was charged with a break-in attempt.
Clifton Phillip Thomas, 32, of Old Maxton Road in Laurinburg, was charged with attempted breaking and entering on Monday, a sheriff's report said. He was released on a written promise to appear for court.
Car reported stolen
A Laurinburg woman told deputies her car was stolen from the side of the highway.
Victoria Chavis Bridges, 25, of Hasty Road reported her blue 1999 Nissan Altima, valued at $2,985, stolen from the shoulder of the U.S. 74 Bypass sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning, a sheriff's report said.
One charged with drugs
A Siler City, N.C. woman was apprehended Monday for drugs, a sheriff's report said.
Christine Ritter Rouse, 33, was charged with possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors, after deputies found marijuana and rolling paper on the woman, the report said. Rouse was placed in Scotland County jail under a $1,500 bond.
Jewelry stolen
A Maxton man reported jewelry stolen from his home.
Eldis Hunt, 71, of Modest Road, told deputies on Saturday that someone stole $2,200 in jewelry from his home, according to a sheriff’s report.
Accused larcenist charged
A Laurinburg woman was arrested for stealing plants from the Wagram Post Office, according to a sheriff's report.
Melissa Locklear, 40, of McLaughlin Road was arrested Sunday night and charged with misdemeanor larceny, a report said. Locklear was released on a written promise to make her court date.
80-year old victim of break-in
An 80-year old Gibson man reported $2,000 in losses after a break in, a sheriff's report said.
Clyde Allison told deputies that someone pried open the door to his home on Old Stage Coach Road and stole $1,500 in tools and a $500 air compression, according to the report.
The report listed $50 in damages.
Jewelry taken
A 71-year old man reported jewelry stolen from his home.
Eldis Hunt, of Modest Road, Maxtin, told deputies on Saturday that someone stole $2,200 in jewelry from his home, according to a sheriff’s report.
