Kayla Clark was elected the 2012 Homecoming Queen for Scotland High School.

The 16-year-old high school senior was crowned during the homecoming game on Sept. 28.

“This is a great honor,” she said. “I used to be very shy and this gave me the opportunity to meet and communicate with so many people. I am living proof for that timid young girl that she can come out of her shell.”

Clark, who represented the Scotland Singers Club, was escorted by Scott Poage.

“I want to thank my family and everyone who helped me with my campaign and all of those who voted for me, giving me the chance to represent The Scotland Singer’s Club and Scotland High School as a whole,” Clark said.

A there were a total of 17 homecoming queen candidates.

Clark is an honor roll student and plans to attend UNC Charlotte next fall. Her parents are Ronald and Karen Clark of Laurinburg.
