The Laurinburg/Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsors Badcock Furniture and the Lumbee River Electric Membership will welcome new educators to the area with a special reception to be held Sept. 24. The event will be a part of the Chamber’s Business After Hours program, and will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Badcock Furniture, located at 417 Atkinson St. in Laurinburg.

The Chamber’s Education Committee normally holds a breakfast to welcome new teachers to the Scotland County School System, but this year committee members decided to take a different approach.

“This year, we wanted to reach out to our other schools that support Scotland County,” said Matt Kendall, program director. “We think this after work setting will afford a better opportunity for our business members to meet with these new teachers, and to show their support for their efforts.”

New faculty members from the Scotland County School System, St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Richmond Community College and UNC-Pembroke received invitations earlier this month.

The new instructors will receive welcome bags filled of items donated by chamber members, will meet other educators around the area and will be eligible to win door prizes. Food and refreshments will be provided for all attendees.

For more information, contact the Chamber at 276-7420.
