Graveside services for Mr. Alexander Edwin “Sandy” Shaw III of Chadbourn will be 11 a.m Saturday at Spring Hill Cemetery, Wagram with the Rev. Robert Link officiating. The family will gather at Montpelier Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, Wagram beginning at 10 a.m.

A native of Wagram and son of the late Jane McKay and Alexander Edwin Shaw, he was preceded in death by a son, Alexander Edwin Shaw IV ( missing since 1982) and two siblings, Ann Shaw Hunter and Daniel Neill Shaw.

Sandy was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army, and was a graduate of Davidson College class of 1948. He was mayor of Wagram from 1963-1967, Duplin County Tax Supervisor and served as the town manager of Chadbourn 1975-1983 and later as town councilman from 1987-1989. Mr. Shaw served as mayor of Chadbourn from 1989-1991. Mr. Shaw was a member of the Chadbourn Presbyterian Church and a church elder. He was owner of Property Tax Services, Inc. in Chadbourn.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Blake Shaw of the home, daughter Grace Shaw Abrams and husband Gene of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Catherine Shaw Perry of Tifton Ga.; a grandson Alexander Blake Abrams and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Chadbourn Presbyterian Church, 600 E. First Avenue, Chadbourn, NC 28431; Chadbourn Fire and Rescue, 204 N Wilson Street Chadbourn NC 28431 or to a favorite charity.
