To the editor:

As I was leaving my daughter's home on Blues Farm Road Thursday even about 8:30 it was thundering and beginning to rain. By the time I got to the stop light at Wal-Mart it was raining very hard. When I arrived at my apartment at Highland Gardens on McLean Street it was still pouring rain. I knew I could not get out and get up the steps and to my door safely, so I called my daughter to let her know I was okay and that I would wait in the car until it stopped raining so hard.

As I was waiting, I saw the young man that lives in apartment 5 upstairs coming down the steps going toward his car. He had no umbrella, and was not even wearing a jacket. I know he works with the sheriff's department but since he was not in uniform, I though he must really have something important to do to get our in this weather.

A few minutes passed and I heard a tap on my window. As I looked around, I saw him standing beside my car with a big umbrella. He helped me out of my car and up the steps to my door. Now that's what I call a good neighbor.
