Child abuse investigated

Deputies are investigating possible child abuse after an 11-year old was hospitalized, according to a sheriff's report.

The report says an 11-year old female from Laurel Hill was admitted to Scotland Memorial Hospital after ingesting prescription drugs Monday night. The sheriff's office is looking into possible child abuse and prescription drug charges.

The report did not list what drug may have been given to the child.

Hunting club reports B&E

The Hound Dog Hunting Club, located on Hound Dog Road in Laurel Hill, reported a break-in Monday night, according to a sheriff's report.

The report says someone pried open the back door and left with close to $1,000 in property.

Reported missing was a converter box, a push mower, various hand tools, 10 bags of dog food and four chainsaws.

Man charged with assaulting child

A Laurinburg man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a child.

A sheriff's report says 21-year old James Elbert Malloy, Jr., of Caledonia Road in Laurinburg, was arrested Monday at 7 p.m. at a residence on Airbase Road. Malloy is charged with assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a child under the age of 12.

Malloy was placed in Scotland County jail under a $6,000 bond.

Drug charges in Maxton

Several men were recently charged in Maxton on drug charges.

According to a Maxton police report, one was arrested and two were cited July 18 in the Minit Shop Parking Lot on Middle Street.

• Gregory Antoine Braddy, 24, of Cummins Street in High Point is charged with possession with the intent to sell marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Braddy was placed in the Robeson County jail under a $15,000 bond.

• Justin Dean Locklear, 22, of Bethea Road in Maxton, was charged with possession of marijuana.

• Travis Ray Oxendine, 20, of South Austin Street in Maxton, was charged with simple possession.

Police recovered 12 grams of marijuana in the incident.

Maxton motorist fired upon

A Maxton woman was shot at as she was driving, according to a Robeson County sheriff's report.

Christy L. Estrada, of Kayln Road said she was driving a 1989 Cadillac Seville on McGirt Road at about 12:15 a.m. when she heard something strike her windshield. Damages were placed at about $150.

Farm equipment report stolen

About $7,000 of farming equipment was taken on Thursday from Murphy Brown Farms at 653 Beaver Dam Road in Maxton, according to a Robeson County sheriff’s report.

An employee discovered a damaged fence at about 3 a.m. and found a John Deere tractor, trailer, pressure washer and livestock medicines missing from a storage shed.

Car theft

A Maxton woman was among four people to report their car stolen in Robeson County last week.

Annie Marie Locklear, 55, told deputies that her 2000 Pontiac Sunfire was taken from behind her Porcelain Drive home on Tuesday, according to a sheriff’s report. It was valued at $4,600.

Teen arrested for larceny, threats

A Maxton teenager was is charged with larceny and threats, according to a Robeson County sheriff's report.

Bryant James Yanick, 19, of Missouri Road, was arrested on Monday and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy for larceny, and two counts of threatening phone calls.

He was placed in Robeson County jail under a $7,000 bond.
