Alleged gunman arrested for robbery

Deputies charged a Laurinburg man with robbery, according to a sheriff's report.

Dejarus Rudell Fields, 20, of Shaw Road, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with common law robbery, according to the report.

Fields was also charged with his alleged involvement in a gunfire exchange on Carver Street in May that sent one to the hospital. He as a court date of Sept. 9 for charges of assault with a deadly weapon with an intent to kill and discharging a weapon into occupied property.

Fields, who was out on bond, for the shooting incident, is accused of robbing Gary Malloy on July 17. He was placed in Scotland County jail under a $2,000 bond.

Teen charged with fleeing

A Gibson teen was charged with attempting to elude officers Thursday, according to a sheriff's report.

The report says 18-year old Richlan Horace Powers, of Sandy Road, is charged with contributing to the delinquency of minors, fleeing to elude arrest in a motor vehicle, failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving, driving without insurance, driving without registration and resisting arrest. The charges stem from an incident on July 24.

Powers is out on bond for his alleged involvement in several break-ins. He was previously charged with two counts of burglary by forcible entry, two counts of larceny and one count of larceny of a dog. His next court date for these charges is Sept. 9.

Powers was placed in Scotland County jail under a $5,000 bond.

Man accused of AOF

A Maxton man was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, according to a Robeson County sheriff's report.

The report says 48-year old Jerry Ray Bryant, of Missouri Road, was arrested and charged with assaulting a female.

He was arrested after his girlfriend, 35-year old Rena McMillian, also of Missouri Road, told deputies Tuesday that they were fighting over a text message he received on his cellphone. She told him to leave the home, and she said he then attacked her by choking, hitting and kicking her, causing “minor injury.”

Bryant was being held without bond at the Robeson County jail.

Prisoner charged for conduct

An inmate at Scotland Correctional Institution was charged with malicious conduct, according to a sheriff's report.

The report says 25-year old Nathaniel Lee Oliver is charged with two counts of malicious conduct by a prisoner.

Oliver is about halfway through his 19-23 month sentence for soliciting discharging a firearm into occupied property in Cabarrus County, according to DOC records.

He has had nine infractions, including two infractions for gang involvement, one for fighting and two for lock tampering.

Oliver also had a number of convictions for robbery and breaking and entering.
