LAURINBURG — Several tournaments took place over the last week at Scotch Meadows Country Club.


The Scotland County Amateur was played July 19-20. Saturday’s round was played at Deercroft Golf Club and Sunday’s round was held at Scotch Meadows. William Carter, an eight-time winner of the event, was the champion once again this year as he finished with a score of 143. Tanner Horne, who will be a senior at Scotland High this fall, was the runner up, posting a score of 151. Tarvis Jackson finished third after finishing with a score of 155.


Ryan Anderson won the 1st Flight, Sam Baker finished second, and Dean English finished third. Blake Bathie won the 2nd Flight by one stroke, as Davis Ganus finished in second and Blake Caldwell finished in third. Jay McMillan won also won the 3rd Flight by one stoke. Jay Williams and Terry Graves finished in a tie for second.


The best shot of the week was made by Mike Clemmons, who sank a hole-in-one on No. 7.


On July 15, Scotch Meadows hosted the Matchmakers Ladies League, where teams from Beacon Ridge, Whispering Woods, Woodlake, Fox Fire, Deercroft, and Scotch Meadows Country Club competed. This Matchmakers league plays six times throughout the year with each club hosting it one time. A total of six players from each club may participate each time and earn points for there club, with the goal of achieving the most points when a winner is announced in the fall.


In the 1st Flight, Jo Caldwell from SMCC won Low Gross. In Low Net, Judy Dickerson and Leslie Frusco from Foxfire tied. In 2nd Low Net, Evelyn Petker from Deercroft emerged victorious.


In the 2nd Flight, Tina Burns from Whispering Woods won Low Gross. Debby McGovern from Foxfire won Low Net. Barbara Burke from Deercroft won 2nd Low Net.


Lorraine Buracker from Woodlake began the 3rd Flight by winning Low Gross. Ingrid Huber from SMCC won Low Net, and Carole Gaskill from Deercroft won 2nd Low Net.


In the 4th Flight, Lyn Massey from SMCC won Low Gross. Sandy McDermoot from Beacon Ridge won Low Net, and Barabara Card from Beacon Ridge won 2nd Low Net.


The 5th Flight saw a couple of ties, as Nita Hartless from Beacon Ridge and Jennie Meggs from SMCC tied in Low Gross. In Low Net, Beth Elliot from SMCC and Doris Munovia from Woodlake tied in Low Net. Dee Kirschke won 2nd Low Net.


In the 6th Flight, Marilyn Dumbleton from Beacon Ridge won Low Gross. The Low Net winner was Almira Weber from Woodlake, and the 2nd Low Net winner was Page Coker from Foxfire.


On July 19, Scotch Meadows hosted the Ladies Pee Dee League. Players from Florence Country Club, Bishopville, Darlington, Cheraw, Marlboro, Traces, Oakdale, Beaver Creek, and Crossings competed. Players are placed on teams and a low net best call point system is used to determine the winning team.


Debbie Welling from Oakdale had the most accurate drive and was also closest to pin No. 17. Kellie Caldwell from SMCC had the longest drive. Joe Caldwell was closest to pin No. 2, and Diane Watson from Florence CC was closest to pin No. 12.


The winning teams were Mary Beth Lewis from Cheraw, Libby Evans from Oakdale, Vicki Sharber from Oakdale, and Kellie Caldwell from SMCC.


On July 22, there were several winners in twilight golf. Ryan and Kristen Anderson, along with David and Jamie Synan won Low Score. John and Lynn Massey, along with Blake and Jo Caldwell, also won Low Score. James and B.J. Clark and Bill and Nancy Short won Low Putts. Tim and JoAnn Altman and Les and Brooke Bathie also won Low Putts.
