LAURINBURG — Monday’s rain caused the two Scotland High School games to be moved or canceled. The girls soccer team was set to take on Hoke County in Raeford in the evening while the boys golf team was set for an afternoon meet at Pinecrest.
The soccer game was postponed to today, with the varsity beginning at 7 p.m. The golf meet does not have a makeup date at this time.
The Scotland soccer squad is 3-6-1 (2-2-1 SEC) on the season and is coming off of a 4-2 win over the Richmond Raiders last week. The Scots met Hoke County earlier this season, playing to a scoreless tie on March 26. The Scots are back in Laurinburg tomorrow for a rematch with Purnell Swett. The game is varsity only and begins at 6 p.m. Scotland put up five goals against the Rams when the two teams met on March 20.
Softball and baseball seeking wins at Hoke
The soccer team will not be the only Scotland group taking a trip up to Raeford, however. The baseball and softball teams are both set to take on the Bucks and will be in need of a win after both teams lost to Richmond Friday.
The softball team lost to Richmond in the eighth inning when Jessica Steen launched a two-run blast for the only runs of the game. Scotland is 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference with the loss. They defeated Hoke 5-3 in the first meeting of the season. The Scots held a 5-0 lead for most of that game until Hoke (5-8, 0-5 SEC) scored three off of a home run in the final inning.
Richmond is still undefeated this season (14-0, 5-0 SEC) and is two games ahead of both Purnell Swett and Pinecrest (3-2). Scotland and Lumberton are tied at 2-3 while Hoke is in last at 0-5.
The Scotland baseball team will also be looking to right themselves after a 3-0 loss to Richmond Friday. The Scots have only managed to score one run in the last two games, as they lost 2-1 to Lumberton last week. Scotland is 2-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Hoke, whom Scotland defeated 8-0 on March 28, is securely in the final spot with an 0-5 record in the SEC.
Above the Bucks are Scotland and Swett, who are tied at 2-3. Swett defeated the Scots earlier this season and the two teams will meet again Friday. Pinecrest is 3-2 while Richmond and Lumberton are tied atop the SEC with a 4-1 record.
Both the baseball and softball games begin at 7 p.m.
