Tennis courts


to begin resurfacing


LAURINBURG — The six hard courts located at the Scotland County Tennis Center in Laurinburg will be closed from Oct. 21 through the end of the month for resurfacing.


Scotland County Parks and Recreation is resurfacing the hard courts to improve their playability and quality.


Soccer falls


at Union Pines


CAMERON — Scotland’s varsity soccer team lost 3-0 to Union Pines Thursday. Another early goal lead to the Scots’ downfall on the road. The team is now 2-16 overall. The junior varsity team lead for the majority of their match earlier Thursday, but Union Pines scored two late goals for the win.


Gaughan moving back


to Nationwide in 2014


TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Brendan Gaughan is moving back to the NASCAR Nationwide Series next year for Richard Childress Racing.


The team announced Friday at Talladega Superspeedway that Gaughan will drive the No. 62 car with sponsorship from South Point Hotel & Casino in his hometown of Las Vegas.


Gaughan is driving for Childress in the truck series this season and ranks 10th in the point standings heading into Saturday’s truck race at Talladega. He has also made three Nationwide starts.


Gaughan competed in Sprint Cup in 2004, and he had a full-time Nationwide ride in 2009 and 2010. He has never won a race in NASCAR’s top two series.
