LAURINBURG — The Rev. Dr. H.E. Edwards will be honored for 70 years in ministry during a July 11 ceremony at the Clinton Inn.

The event, “A Celebration of Life and Excellence in Ministry,” also a celebration of Edwards’ 90th birthday, will start at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased by calling 910-280-2598 or 910-476-9295.

Edwards pastored Shiloh Baptist Church in Maxton for 60 years. He is the founder of Maxton Adult and Children’s Day Care Centers. A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, he is also a 32nd degree Mason and Supreme Prelate and World Officer of the Knights of Pythians. He has served on the General Baptist State Convention and the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education.

Born to the late Bennie and Willie Bell Edwards, Rev. Edwards retired from the Scotland County School System. He attended public schools in Hoke County and graduated from Shaw University. He received the Doctor of Humanities degree from Urbine Bible College in Detroit.
