LAURINBURG —A Laurinburg woman was arrested on Friday for eight drug-related charges and given a $10,000 unsecured bond, according to a statement from the Laurinburg Police Department.
Officers arrested Develon McBryde, 35, of 1201 Washington St. in the parking lot of the Scotland Inn after searching her car and finding drugs and digital scales, according to the statement.
McBryde was charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony maintaining a vehicle for keeping and selling a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of schedule II, aggravated possession of more than one half ounce of marijuana, disorderly conduct, assault on a government official and resist, delay and obstruct, according to the statement.
At her court date on Monday, McBryde was read the charges against her and she waived her right to have an attorney, according to Assistant Police Chief Cliff Sessoms.
Officers responded to the Scotland Inn at the Hampton Circle after receiving a call from management at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, who told officers that there was some drug activity going on in the parking lot of the hotel, according to the statement.
McBryde walked by officers in the parking lot who noticed she smelled strongly of marijuana and followed her back to her car. According to the statement, McBryde began to try to conceal items in her car, got out of her car and locked the doors, becoming increasingly combative when asked about the scent of marijuana.
A later search of McBryde’s vehicle produced marijuana, cocaine, 10 hydrocodone tablets and digital scales.
