Mark 6:31 – “And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”
It's not in the Scriptures, but it is still true – “All work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy.” We need to take time to physically refresh our bodies, and we need to take time to spiritually refresh our souls. Expending too much time using either or both our bodies and souls can lead to physical or spiritual health issues. God made us, and He knows what is best for us. Let me make two suggestions for those who are looking to balance the work/rest area of your lives. Schedule your time – both to work and to rest. And with this schedule of rest, set a location that works best to allow you to rest. The life of a Christian is a marathon, not a sprint, so we need to have endurance. This endurance comes from our periodic rest stops that allow us to restore our souls and bodies. As we spend time in rest with God, this gives us a New Hope for Today.
