I hope your calendar is already marked for Thursday and that you are planning on joining us for a very special evening. This is the time for our 75th Annual Meeting, the “Diamond Jubilee.” This year, we will be holding this event at the Highlands, on Plant Road. I hope you won’t miss out on this opportunity to come out and visit with other members of the Chamber family and enjoy some great entertainment and honor some very special people in our community. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will commence at 7 p.m. The menu will be delicious, so you don’t want to miss this event.
This is the Chamber’s event where the Dormagen/McLean Community Youth Service and the Dunbar/McCoy Quality of Life Awards are presented. Both of these awards give us the opportunity to recognize deserving individuals in this county and say thank you to them for their service to our community. I am excited about this year’s recipients and look forward to presenting their stories and giving them the “pat on the back” that they are so worthy of receiving.
This Annual Meeting is also our opportunity to look back on 2013 and celebrate all the successes of the year. We also will be recognizing our outgoing chair, David McLamb, and welcome our incoming chair, Nick Sojka. Both gentlemen give of their time and talents freely and the chamber welcomes the opportunity to say thank you to them. The entertainment this year will feature music of Allen McLean, the music teacher at North Laurinburg Elementary School, as well as the choir from St. Andrews University, led by Ed Williams. Both are sure to be great entertainment and will highlight just a sample of the wonderful talent we have in Scotland County.
If you have not signed up, please make your reservation today, call the Chamber at 910-276-7420. Tickets are only $30 per person and that includes dinner, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. I look forward to seeing you there!
Tonia Stephenson is president of the Laurinburg/Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce.
