Dr. J. Earl Bowling, of Bowling Eye Clinic in Laurinburg, was recently recognized for five years of service on the board of directors of Prevent Blindness North Carolina, a nonprofit health agency.

While on the board, Bowling has volunteered his time reading retinal images for the Adult Vision Screening Program, which provides free screenings to patients at health centers and clinics throughout the state. After leaving the board, he continues to spend his time reading the images.

Prevent Blindness North Carolina, headquartered in Raleigh, started in 1967. An affiliate of Prevent Blindness America, the organization delivers direct service programs designed to preserve sight through screening, publications, safety, education, information and referral through volunteer efforts.
