LAURINBURG — Carol Whitehead and Tara Algieri will be sharing some of their work with the local community during a pair of reading events at Scotland County Memorial Library on Saturday as part of the 2014 Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poets Series Central Region festivities.
Whitehead, a longtime Scotland County resident, will be reading at 11 a.m.
Algieri, a St. Andrews University senior, will be reading at 1 p.m.
Distinguished Poet Lynn Veach Sadler will join each of the student poets at the readings.
Created by the North Carolina Poetry Society (NCPS), the Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poets Series provides promising student poets at the middle school, high school, college/university and adult level the opportunity to work with a distinguished published poet.
Sadler is in her first year serving as the Distinguished Poet in the Central Region. A former college president, she has published widely in both academic and creative writing publications.
Whitehead, Algieri and Sadler will read again during the April 24 Regional reading in DeTamble Library on the St. Andrews University Campus. Fellow Central Region student poets Rosalyn Marhatta and M. Danielle Wilson will join in that reading.
