LAURINBURG — A 15-year-old faces a weapons charge after being found in a bathroom of the Clinton Inn on Saturday in “close proximity” to a sawed-off shotgun, according to a police report.
The teenager was hiding from police who were searching room 234 at about 12:21 a.m. Saturday following a call placed by the hotel’s management, according to the report.
It was unclear on Monday what the teenager was charged with. He was released to his parents, according to the report.
Several people were gathered near the door to the room but fled inside when police arrived, according to the report. When police knocked a man opened the door, revealing a large amount of fireworks, beer and liquor in the room behind him, according to the report, and officers smelled a “strong odor of marijuana.”
After searching the room, police found a several small bags of marijuana on a bathroom counter and a sawed-off shotgun in the shower, near where the teenager was hiding, according to the report.
The investigation is ongoing.
