LAURINBURG — A 35-year-old Laurinburg woman was charged with driving while impaired early Monday morning after her 2009 Ford rammed into an electric pole on Raleigh Street, according to Laurinburg police.

Yolander Stanback, who reported her address as on Donna Place, signed a written promise to appear in court.

Assistant Chief Cliff Sessoms said the impact had broken the pole, knocking out power to the surrounding areas for nearly three hours until Laurinburg crews could replace it. Electricity had been restored by 7:20 a.m.

Damage to the car was reported at $3,000 and to the pole, $7,000.
