LUMBERTON — A 23-year-old Maxton woman and her 2-year-old son were killed in a wreck near Pembroke early Thursday morning, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Tiffany Hunt and Brayden Hunt, of Justice Drive, were killed when Hunt’s 2000 Ford Ranger trunk entered a curve too quickly and she lost control of the vehicle, according to a report filed by Trooper D.E. Raynor.

Tiffany Hunt was not wearing a seat belt and Brayden Hunt was not secured in a child restraint, the report said.

The accident occurred at about 5:50 a.m. Thursday, about four miles west of Pembroke, the report said.

According to the report, the vehicle was traveling about 65 mph in the 55-mph zone when it entered the curve. Hunt lost control of the truck, over-corrected and ran off the road to the left, where the vehicle struck a tree.

Both were transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.
