LAURINBURG — The Laurinburg Institute, one of four historically black boarding schools still standing in the United States, will be honored by the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources with a North Carolina Highway Historical Marker on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

The marker will be placed on U.S. 401 business at McGirts Bridge Road.

Laurinburg Institute was founded by the McDuffie family as Laurinburg Normal and Industrial Institute in 1904. The current location was constructed in 1954.
