LAURINBURG — Voter turnout slowed a little on Friday, with 235 ballots cast — bringing the total for the first two days of early voting to just two votes shy of 500.

Voters cast 263 ballots on Thursday, less than a third of votes cast during the 2012 primary, according to county elections director Dell Parker. She said Thursday she expected turnout to be much higher.

Contested races include that of the U.S. Senate and Supreme Court Justices, as well as the local races of county commissioners; county sheriff; clerk of superior court and school board.

Voting will be held at the Board of Elections on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday voting hours will be offered on May 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at the elections office.

Early voting will continue on weekdays through May 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Board of Elections. Voters can cast ballots at Scotland Place Civic Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to May 2.

Voting on May 6 will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Polling sites will be open in all of the county’s precincts.
