LAURINBURG — A 28-year-old faces felony and misdemeanor charges after being accused of threatening the life of a Gibson man during an altercation on Tuesday, according to the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

John Pearson, of 14100 Quick St. in Gibson, is charged with felonious kidnapping, misdemeanor pointing a firearm and discharging a firearm and two counts of misdemeanor communicating a threat. He was placed in the Scotland County Detention Center and held under a $24,000 secured bond.

Pearson was arrested Tuesday on South Main Street in Laurinburg around 2 p.m after Norman Johnson, of Gibson, reported that Pearson threatened him.

According to Sheriff’s Investigator Gyivan Jackson, the incident occurred Sunday on Railroad Street.

Jackson said that according to Johnson’s claim “Pearson threatened him — stating he would kill him.” She said the two knew each other.

Jackson said Johnson reported that Pearson forced him “to move from one street to another” as they walked.

Jackson said Johnson told her that during the argument, Pearson had threatened Johnson, pointed a gun at him and discharged the firearm when Johnson’s back was turned. Johnson was not injured and Jackson did not know where Pearson had fired the shot.

“I think it was to terrorize him,” said Jackson.

Johnson reported the incident on Sunday and “came back to the magistrate’s office yesterday” to report that Pearson had threatened his life again which added another warrant to Pearson’s arrest report.
