To the editor:

This letter is about a candidate for re-election to the county commission. A number of letters were mailed out to some people in the county. I didn’t get one, maybe because I am a registered Republican or an ultraconservative. According to the letter, this person is a good person. He or she is a member of various boards. It doesn’t say he or she is liked by those who work with or the working class who might work for him or her.

With the letter is a card asking for donations. Get this: for $500, you are a gold donor; for $250, you are a silver donor; and last but not least, for $100, you are a bronze donor. He or she requests your name, etc., with the donation so they can keep records.

How many working class families in Scotland County can afford to give $50, let alone $500? There is no mention of reducing spending or taxes in this letter.

To me, it is quite obvious that this person is requesting money from wealthy donors of the county and, furthermore, these people will probably want a political favor in the future.

Now, what do you think? This is not the person I want in government.
