LAURINBURG — A Laurinburg Police Department patrol vehicle was involved in a three-car collision on Monday evening that sent three, including the officer, to Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Around 7 p.m. on Monday, a Chevrolet Impala driven by Allen Batties of New York was travelling eastbound on West Covington Street when it ran the stop sign at the Atkinson Street intersection, according to Trooper R. Maynard of the N.C. Highway Patrol, who investigated the accident scene due to the involvement of a Laurinburg police officer and vehicle.
The Impala hit the side of a Chevrolet Trailblazer travelling north on Atkinson Street, pushing that vehicle into a Laurinburg Police Department car facing west and stopped at the West Covington Street stop sign. The Trailblazer hit the patrol car in the front left quadrant.
The police officer, Kevin Page, was not seriously injured according to patrol Sgt. Chris Jackson, but was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital for examination.
Batties was visiting Laurinburg for the funeral of a family member. He and his passenger, his mother Bessie Batties, were uninjured.
Both passengers in the Trailblazer were transported to the hospital. Their names and conditions were not available.
