The reason why we hurt is because we have a heart and with the heart comes emotion and feelings. If we didn’t have these two things, we would never have to worry about being hurt.

All of us know how our feelings can be hurt. Sharp words that somebody has said to us cut us to our heart and it hurt so bad. We all know that people can say some things that can really hurt you and we have said some things to hurt some other people, if we were to be honest. In the heat of the moment, somebody with an unbridled tongue said something to hurt us and we, in the heat of the moment, maybe have done the same thing to somebody else.

If we were hurt by the words of somebody else and we don‘t like it, then we need to think twice in the heat of the moment that we shouldn’t say things to hurt somebody else. We all have feelings and emotions, but we don’t look at it like that — and that’s why we need to be careful about the words that we say. Ask God to help us to bridle our tongues and help us to think before we speak. In the book of James, chapter 3 verse 8b, it is written of the tongue: “It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”

Somebody said “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” We all know better than that. Words can and do hurt, but in spite all of that, we have to move beyond the hurt. We can’t allow it to cripple us. The first step for healing is to consciously choose to move on and let it go.

This is the only time that God can heal us. Holding on to hurt only hurts us. It will take control of our personality and make us somebody that we are not. Hurt can lead to depression and the longer you stay there, in hurt, the more depressed you become.

I know you’ve been hurt but just pick up the broken pieces — with prayer, forgiveness and time it will get better. In this day that the Lord has made (Psalm 118:24) God wants to heal your hurt.
