RALEIGH — North Carolina Speaker of the House of Representatives Tim Moore has appointed state Rep. Ken Goodman of Rockingham to the Council of State Governments Fiscal and Economic Development Public Policy Committee.

CSG’s Fiscal & Economic Development Public Policy Committee provides a forum for state leaders to address emerging challenges and issues arising from dynamic fiscal, tax and economic development policy conditions in the states. Members of the committee focus on emerging trends, innovative and effective solutions, and viable policy positions and response projects.

“I am looking forward to serving on this committee,” said Goodman, who represents a portion of Scotland County. “I believe it adds great value to the work I am doing in the General Assembly when it comes to assisting rural North Carolina with a successful economic development strategy to create new jobs and opportunities outside our metro regions.”

During meetings, committee members may introduce and consider policy resolutions. Committee priorities include state/federal funding relationship, state revenue recovery, Medicaid and health care financing/cost containment, state pensions and OPEB funding, and rethinking how states engage in economic development.

“Our focus in state government should center around job growth, supporting our public schools and investing in our local communities,” Goodman said.
