LAURINBURG – Laurinburg police have arrested two people and are looking for a third following a robbery Wednesday morning
Sparkle Bingham, 38, and Willie Bethea Jr., 33, both of Laurinburg, have been arrested in connection with the robbery.
Police said the incident began when Bingham and two other people drove to a home on Tara Drive. As the three got out of the vehicle, two men in masks approached the trio and pulled out weapons, according to Assistant Police Chief Cliff Sessoms.
Bingham ran from the scene and the masked gunmen and assaulted the two who remained, Sessoms said. One of the victims was treated and released from Scotland Memorial Hospital. The incident occurred around 7:25 a.m.
After an investigation, police located Bingham and Bethea at an apartment on Nichols Street. Some of the stolen property was recovered from the apartment, Sessoms said.
Bethea was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was placed in Scotland County Detention Center under a $76,000 secured bond.
Bingham was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Bingham was placed in Scotland County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond.
Police are continuing to investigate the identity of the third man involved.
